Rating: - A great comedy for the family!
Yours, Mine and Ours is based on a true story. The idea to make Helen and Frank Beardsley's life into a movie came from Lucille Ball herself, who read an article about the couple in a magazine and thought it would make a good film. The movie is about a widow, Helen North, a nurse for the Navy, who has eight children. She meets Navel officer Frank Beardsley, a widower, who has ten children (one of his sons, Mike, is played by Tim Matheson). They begin dating and soon they're married.. Although, the kids aren't very happy about their parents marrying new people. But the family is in for a shock while Frank is away at sea! Also starring Van Johnson, this is a fantastic, heartwarming comedy that the entire family will enjoy. Lucille Ball, as usual, is hysterical and Henry Fonda is charming and just as funny. This is one of Lucy's best performances!
Rating: - A hilarious family comedy for everyone!
I have just added this movie to my list of favorite Lucy movies. Yours, Mine, and Ours is probably one of the funniest movies ever made by Lucille Ball. Lucy and Henry Fonda have such great chemistry onscreen. I laughed throughout the whole movie. Lucy's drunk scene is pure classic-it'll remind you of her ever-famous Vitameatavegemin scene. Lucy has not lost her touch at all-she never did. It's always a delight to watch her make her hilarious magic happen, and this movie has plenty of magic. Imagine watching the Brady Bunch-times 10! Just think of all the side-splitting mishaps and pranks go along with it. Yours, Mine, and Ours is suitable for everyone-kids, teenagers, and adults. It's that kind of sophisticated comedy that makes it enjoyable to any generation. This movie is a must-see for any Lucy fan!
Rating: - Here's a story of a lovely lady....
In what has been described as the inspiration for "The Brady Bunch", the concept for Yours, Mine and Ours seems like a good bet for a nice, wholesome family picture. It's a decent movie, it has a certain charm to it, and the lead actors are very likable. But, wholesome? Suprisingly not.The story of the film is simple. Widower and Naval officer Henry Fonda meets widower Lucille Ball, a Naval nurse. The two fall in love and marry. The conflict? Fonda has ten kids and Ball has eight. That's right, when they marry they become a family with 18 kids. There's your story (apparenly based on an actual family named Beardsley... which is Fonda's character's name in the flick). Since the story takes place at the dawning of the 70's the humor is sometimes dated, but sometimes funny as well. I chuckled a few times. It's more of a charming family film, but I was surprised at some of the content of this movie. I'd be hesitant to recommend this film for little children, as there are many adult situations in the movie... ranging from sex, alcohol, puberty, etc. However in retrospect, most of the content would probably go over the small children's heads though. My only real complaint about the film: too many "naval" one liners from Fonda. "Now hear this... get to bed!" "All hands on deck!" And so on... Henry Fonda was an acting machine the year Yours, Mine and Ours was released (1969). In that year he also appeared in Madigan, The Boston Strangler, Firecreek (with longtime friend James Stewart) and Once Upon a Time in the West in which he plays the complete antithesis of his nice guy role here. MGM Home Entertainment's DVD release of Yours, Mine and Ours presents the film full frame and includes the original theatrical trailer, as well as Spanish and French language options. If you are a fan of the lead actors, or of "The Brady Bunch", you'll probably want to pick up this budget priced DVD.
