Rating: - Disney's Personal Favorite - "Lion King"-like Masterpiece!
This Animated Feature, from Walt Disney Studios' "classic" period, showcases Disney's favorite themes: Natures majestic beauty and the miracle of life itself. From the birth of "the young Prince", to his rightful place at the throne of the forest, Bambi is a delight to watch. My favorite scenes are the time when the new generation of "young ones", one by one, get "twitterpated" (as the wise owl explains it). The dazzeling animation includes many moving moments, highlighted by the scene wehre Bambi's mother is killed. Searching for the mother, young Bambi is told "your mother can't be with you anymore". It is not until this moment that the father acknowledges his place in Bambi's life. I first experienced this piece of movie magic as a child during the annual "Disney Feature" at the renouned MGM Theatre in Frankfurt, Germany. Of the films I was privileged to enjoy on their giant screen, this is the one I will always remember most fondly. From the reminders of Stomper's father (related by the mother) to the warnings of danger in the great meadow, and certainly the revitalized forest after a devestating fire, as well as the first signs of spring after a cold and snowy winter, "Bambi" was and always will be a memorable experience. Until the long-awaited DVD version becomes available, the double lazer disc is the most sophisticated media for this wonderful film. The final side includes many "extras". The DVD format will certainly be filled with "gimmicks" as well. This film receives my highest recommendation for viewing by "children" of all ages!*****
Rating: - A beautiful story that soars with real life intensity
Said to be Walt Disney's own personal favorite of all his films, BAMBI is a brilliantly animated, heart-tugging parable about the cycles of life as reflected in the story of the growth of a young deer.A fawn named Bambi learns to walk and talk with the help of his friends, a bunny named Thumper and a skunk named Flower. Bambi's mother teaches him about the joys of nature but warns him to stay away from the deadly creature named "Man." One spring day during a visit to a meadow, Bambi's mother is killed by a hunter. Years pass, and Bambi experiences the first pangs of romantic love when he becomes interested in a female deer named Faline. After winning a fight with another male for her affection, he further proves his heroism during a raging forest fire that nearly claims the lives of his friends and Faline. Originally planned to follow Disney's first animated feature, SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS (1937), BAMBI wound up taking five years to make. In contrast to the clean lines and bright colors of most Disney cartoons, the drawings in BAMBI have a soft, lush, and almost hazy quality to them, in keeping with the gentleness of the characters. The bittersweet fable is actually geared toward older kids and even adults, dealing with such traumatic subjects as the loss of childhood innocence and the death of a parent; the heartwrenching scene where Bambi's mother is killed has inspired countless nightmares among those who saw it at a very early age. This honest, non-sugar-coated approach to the hard truths of life, however, is what gives BAMBI its lasting emotional power, and makes it stand apart, not only from Disney's cartoons, but from virtually all others as well.
Rating: - Disney's 3rd Masterpiece With No Regrets! A Classic!
Bambi was first released in 1942 and ever since, has been a childhood favourtie for children all over the world! It is also an adult favourite and is fun for the whole entire family to enjoy! Bambi came back to the theaters 5 times after it's premiere and came to video in 1989 and 1997! That's how loved the film was!The film pretty short (70 mins) but is still loved enough to be a Disney classic! Many people look back on the sadest moments in movies, and they replied "When Bambi's mother died" I must agree that it was one of the sadest parts of the film, but the rest of the movie is pretty good! The story is basicly about a young deer who is going through the stages of growing up with his mother. When he is very young, his mother is shot by a hunter and has to live through live without a mother. The movie is filled with romance and many surprises that the whole family will enjoy!
