Rating: - Rare Scores Again
In the past few months, British company Rare has been working overtime, with DK 64, Jet Force Gemini and Perfect Dark. Well, if JFG scores 4 stars, and DK scores 5 stars, then I would have to give Perfect Dark 100 stars. In a brilliant follow-up to the wildly popular, intelligent shoot-em up Goldeneye, PD takes first person gaming to another level. The thrilling sci-fi story will suck you in and not let go as the game takes you for wild ride. The graphics are incredible, the sound is awesome, and there is enough challenge to occupy even the best of gamers, while still providing hours of fun for beginners. The music and sound are perfectly suited to the theme, and play control and gameplay are just unbelievable. Not only that, but the multiplayer adds tons of replay value to an already great game. With computer-controlled simulants and tons of options, you and your friends will be entertained for days. Verdict: Go out and buy this game!

If only *half* of the goodies Rare (the developers of this game) have dropped on us wind up being in here, it still warrants five stars. But knowing them, they've only told us half of all the new stuff!Based on Rare's extremely-popular Goldeneye engine, this is the "semi-sequel"... follow Joanna Dark as she infiltrates the dataDyne corporation to uncover a deep, sci-fi-based plot, with loads of weapons, strategy, and multiplayer fun! Confirmed features include: -- At least two multiplayer levels from Goldeneye -- All of Goldeneye's weapons, and more -- Much improved AI, where teams of enemies can interact, function as a group and assess threats -- A weapon that slowly let's you target through, then shoot through walls (no, that's not a typo... bye-bye, campers!) -- An intricate, deep plot (with numerous twists) -- The ability to introduce "bots" to your multiplayer gaming... i.e., play by yourself against a few computer-controlled bots, or have a 4-player game and assign each player a bot to help them out, etc. The bots can also be set to specific modes, including Revenge (hunting whoever killed it--or it's human teammate, I'm not sure--last), Target (going after only one person the whole game), Pacifist (guess...), and more -- More levels, some specifically designed for multiplayer -- Real-time lighting effects, and other graphical goodies that I can't remember at the minute -- The ability to take a snapshot of your face (yes, you being the person who holds the controller) and paste it onto your character in the game (this will be done via a Game Boy Camera...) -- ... What are you waiting for? Pre-order it already! :-)
Rating: - The best N64 game, and one of my favorite games!
Perfect Dark is what we could call ''a futuristic and bloody Goldeneye 64 version''. They added all the things Goldeneye 64 needed to be perfect. First, it is possible to play cooperative missions with another player who controls your ally or even the bad guys! Second, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) of the enemies is upgraded and they now have difficulties to walk when you shot them in the leg, of they can lose their guns and surrender if you steal it of if you shoot it. Each weapon has a secondary use, which is a new and surprisingly interesting option. The multiplayer mode gets closer to an Internet multiplayer game with the possibility to play with three friends of yours plus 8 computer simulants. The missions in this game are more interesting, and sometimes you feel like you are the hero of an action film. There are about 40 weapons, 26 missions and the missions have new objectives you couldn't even think of in Goldeneye 64, like wearing a scientist suit to pass a building without being recognized and killed, protecting the President in his airplane Air Force One, or to escape with an alien...there are various levels, plot twists, etc. It's really the best N64 game. And possibly the best first person shooter...AWESOME!
