I don't own the SNES, but a friend does, and I've played it. I havn't been gaming since the beginning of the series, but I was captivated by Ocarina of Time, and have been trying to track down the other Zelda games and try them out for history's sake and to find out the storyline. So the graphics are pathetic, compared to the N64. But I've seen the graphics of the NES, and I can tell that the SNES was as big a leap from NES as N64 is from its predecessor. But to the point. This game was really fun-it equaled up to , possibly even bested, some of the other Z games. So, I rate it 5 stars. ZELDA FOREVER!!!
Rating: - The reason I got my SNES in the first place
Link to the Past will go down as a classic Nintendo game. If there was a video game hall of fame, I think any of the Zelda games would be in it but Link to the Past would definately be in first.L2P (Link to the Past) seriously had everything going for it from good graphics and effects to twist and turn gameplay and story lines to outstanding replay. This was another game that I didn't get tired of because it was that fun to play. It played similar to the original Zelda with an overhead view of your surroundings and at each end of the world, there was something different including an Alternate world when you used the mirror! There were levels that accommodated every gamer's ideal level. Enemies to fight, bonus items to pick up, almost eerie at times scenery and definately some of the best adventure type gameplay ever. I still have my original copy of this game so I'm safe but for those of you who don't have Link to the Past, you have to get it. There is no excuse if you're a Nintendo fan. If you claim you are a true Nintendo fan and you don't have this one, there's something wrong with you. Get this game!
Rating: - One of the all time masterpieces of Gaming
I bought this game way back in 92 when it first came out. it seems incredible now but at the time I was blown away by the graphics; the rain/fogging/lantern and shading effects might seem unimpressive now; but for someone who was fresh from 8 bit gaming it seemed incredible. The game itself had a compelling story line, mind boggling puzzles to solve; two seemingly vast worlds to explore and a suprisingly non-linear development. The bosses are still great fun to beat but suffer from the age old Zelda problem of being a bit too easy once you've sussed out their strategy. As for replay value, I am still playing the game now and I still think it looks great. I always wished that there had been another game made on the snes with this engine and I'm hoping given the recent GBA update of Mario Kart we'll see a sequel to Link to the Past worthy of the name. Worth buying a snes for even in 2001!!
