Rating: none - Great Fun = worthy purchase
Even through all the negative comments (short, only 1 player, linear, etc.),this game is still worth it. The arcade, 80's, button-mashing style is too addictive. Playing as Arargorn, Legolas, and Gimli offer each his unique style. Secret character and levels add to the replay value. Beating all levels with all characters on Hard difficulty will take longer than you think. It also has nice "making of the game" DVD bonus footage. The hidden treasure of the game is the SOUND! Hook up the PS2 to the surround system, and crank it. When you're surrounded by 20-30 orcs and Uruk-hai and the LOTR soundtrack is thumping, you feel like you're in the movie. Bottom line, if you enjoyed the movies and like quick action games. This is worth the purchase.
Rating: - Let us Hunt Some Orcs!
Whole game is based upon this sentence.I do not remember that I killed so many creature so rapidly. Let's start from the beginning. The game starts from the scene of'Last alliance of Elves and Men',as you gain control of the Isildur-who is the hero and the betrayer of all the races of middle-earth-you notice that the figthing scenes are equal to the movie. Then game give you the role of Aragorn,Isildur's heir and the future king of Gondor, and you play the weathertop level as the second training level. Then the game starts. I must say that I've never seen such fighting dinamics, such fighting moves and such cool characters. The story is a bit different from the movie-for building-up more fighting levels-and controls are hard to get used. But once you are capable to move your character correctly, you will start to enjoy the regions and the gameplay. The character models are awesome,as two uruk-hai usually not the same. The voices are from the original actors. The figthing moves are also from the actors.which made them more valuable to see.The score is also from the movie. The fihting scenes,as I said before, are the heart of this game.specially on Helm's Deep, you can see at least 30 uruk-hai together.and every character has their own moves to clean up this mess!It making you feel as you are really in a war.You must use you reflexes and eye-hand coordianiton just to stay alive when you're moving in Helm's Deep. And It is a worthy thing to see,and live...
Rating: - Good choice for editor pick of the month!
Those looking for an incredible hack and slash of epic proportions and who enjoy the J.R.R. Tolkien movie adaptations of the books will love this game. The graphics are incredible, fantastic sound and precise, crisp control showcase this game where hacking through orcs, archers, giant sea creature bosses with your favorite characters is more fun than you can shake a stick (or sword) at! I'm really happy Amazon placed this on the Editor's pick list for Jan 2002. The game truly grabs you and is very hard to put down. Some may say it is a little short in length, but it may just be the game leaves you wanting more after sucessfully beating all it has to offer. It offers bonuses in the form of unlocking DVD movie interviews with the cast of the movies as well as some other nice extras. Overall, if this is a look at what's to come for future EA Lord of the Ring games, you can count me in for all future installments. :)
