Average Rating: 4.14 out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not all that original ...
... but really well done. This game is a direct sequel to the 1982 Kurt Russel Film.

Pro's:
The game is basically another game in the 'survival-horror' genre that games like Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, and Silent Hill popularized. However I thought there were a few really nice additions to this game.
*Use of non-playing characters

*need for constant awareness of exposure to the elements

*Less need to conserve EVERY SHOT of ammo. You can't exactly go on a DOOM style free-for-all, but it's not like Resident Evil where you're counting every single round of ammo either.

*The idea for the use of blood tests to identify infected characters

*Use of the Stress meter

Con's:
*They flubbed the use of the blood tests. Sometimes I'll test a non-playing character, he'll register as human only to break out a minute later anyway. The results of the test don't seem to have any bearing at all, wether or not you keep a character you don't absolutely need seems totally random.

*Characters you absolutely have to have to move forward in the game, don't seem to break out. Unless maybe I just had exceptionally good luck ...

*In regard to the game sound, I noticed a few times that I couldn't hear enemy gunfire, that got very annoying toward the end of the game.

*At the VERY end of the game, I thought you went a little too long without being able to save.

*I never actually HAD to hold a gun to any of my characters heads to get them to trust me, careful use of your resources (which Resident Evil should have taught us) and you can avoid the situation. I would have liked to be put in a "Mexican Stand-off" type of situation. That would have been kinda cool

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Compelling game!
This game draws you in... It has great cinematic sequences, and they aren't too long like other games so you can jump right into without having to know a lengthy pre-plot.

This game is violent! But it's not gore for the sake of gore. It's gore for the sake of realism.

It is incredible mix of a storyline game, suspense, first person shooter, strategy and more.

The fact that you have to be aware of your teammates at all times makes this a revolutionary game and adds to the realism.

I usually don't like movie adaption games, and I haven't seen this movie, so I was hesitant to play it. But even without knowing much about the story beforehand I think it has an excellent plot, graphics and music. This is a must-buy.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Hey Sweden...
I am so happy they made a video game based on "The Thing". I am also happy that the entire game is geared for adults, choc full of general unpleasantness. I got this game 3 days ago and I haven't stopped playing. The controls & format are easy to operate and I have to admit, the game is scary. There are "Things" in the game that look very realistic down to veiny skin and [saliva]. (use the sniper rifle to get a closer look at them, otherwise your dead). Like GTA3, this game is rated-M for a reason, I love playing a game that was designed for me. I'm in my 30's and there is nothing cute or cuddly about this game. It's gruesome, gory, dark, violent and has no redeeming qualities that people want to expose their children too...kinda like the real world. But as an adult, I can say this game is well worth every cent. This will be one of the games that I keep in my PS2 collection, I still have and enjoy some of my older titles I bought when I first purchased my PS2.

Konami and the other developers who created The Thing did an excellent job, the detail and game play is top notch, there are parts of the game where you will jump and just like in the movie (JC's version) ...you don't know who to trust. There is no annoying music soundtrack to distract you, If you look at pictures that are posted on the walls throughout the game you'll see pictures from JC's Movie. The "Things" react like any other animal that wants you dead, they will react to sounds (such as gunshots) follow you up and down stairs and quietly wait for you around corners and dark areas. This game is not easy, I'm having a hard time staying alive. But that's a challenge I like, in this game you'll find out that it's not just a alien threat bent on seeing you dead... You'll find out that if someone in your squad has too much stress and flips out will shoot at anything that moves (including you and the rest of your squad). If you act too weird, you'll get waxed by your squad. If you hang outside in the cold too long, you'll freeze to death.

If your a adult that likes a game geared on the macabre ..."The Thing" is a game you should seriously get. You wont be disappointed.

One tiny little negative thing that I can say about this game that doesn't really matter...
The developers could have went the extra mile and included John Carpenters theme music to the opening / closing credits and the menu screen. ...or even better, had JC himself as a consultant to create the gloomy hopeless feeling he did to his movie.
