Average Rating: Rating: - EA bounces back this year With the horrible release of NBA Live 02 a year ago the EA production team realized that if it wanted to compete w/the NBA 2k franchise it had to make a competitive game. Gone from last year are the horrible 3 point bank shots (thank God) and the weak AI. The new analog control scheme that EA invented is "revolutionary" in what it brings to the sports venue. With this new analog control a player can perform a plethora of cross overs and fakes to break a defender down. The commentary is much better than last year, however the player animations could have been better. Looking at NBA 2k3 you can tell the facial differences of each player, however in Live 03 the facial features seem to be alot alike. Actally the game deserves about 3-4 stars, there are some problems here and there (e.g. defintion, the fast gameplay), but what game doesnt have its' problems. In the "basketball wars" between Live and 2k, I think that 2k may be better, but not by far, EA is on the right track (hopefully they'll stay there). -peace Rating: - Role Reversal For the first time in years, EA Sports has Sega Sports on its heels with the release of the much improved NBA Live 2003. In every phase of the game, Live has finally shown what it can do with the engine of a PS2 or an XBOX and 2K3 didn't even come close to matching the intensity of this game (I know...I got them both 'cuz I don't trust other people's reviews of basketball games). People talking about this isn't a real sim don't know what a real sim is. It has some of the most realistic gameplay in any game right now. You think the players can't do the same moves they have in the game. Someone wasn't paying attention for the past 20 years. I thought NBA 2K3 was going to be the Live of the new millenium, but Live took notes and blew them out of the water this year to claim king of the hill honors. But like LL Cool J said, "don't call it a comeback," call it a welcome back. Rating: none - Improved and Explosive Man, this game was nothing last year. Now, all of the sudden it has gotten fully fun and enjoyable. I just got it yesterday and have been playing it since. The new total player control helps a lot. It is fun and inventive. The graphics are better and more realistic. I have not played NBA 2K3 yet so i cannot compare them. But it has competition now. There are more ways to exploit the defense and smother the offense. School players out of their shoes with a double cross-over. It's all good in here. One on One is fun for when you have a friend over. You can both pick your favorite players and simply try to win on the streets and in the gym. There is more contact in this game, which i love. It makes it way more fun when you blow right past a guy and he trips at your moves. The players move fast and so does this game. I haven't played it online, mainly because i don't have PS2 online, but i am told that it plays smooth. I'd say if you enjoy the NBA this is a great game that simulates it well.
