Warcraft II is a worshipful sequel to one of the first real time strategies ever, Warcraft. Although it does not belong to the newest games of this genre, it deserves a preferment in the game world gallery because it started the whole RTS madness and brought many original features never seen before.The game plot is simple - two races, humans and orcs, fight against each other to exterminate the enemy. A player selects one of the races and then he must command his soldiers and lead them to the final victory. Is that everything? Of course not. The strategy requies lots of different actions - send peasant to mine gold and chop trees to get resources for buildings, train swordsmen, bowmen, knights and wizards, construct siege machines, build boats and ships, fight on ground, water and air. All of this is perfectly dramatized by amazing graphics, music and sound effects. The game promises hours, days and weeks of great fun. I am really looking forward to Warcraft III which should look even better in 3D environment.

WarCraft II isn't exactly the freshest real-time strategy game on the market, but that doesn't mean it's any less fun than it used to be. For those of you who missed it the first time around, WarCraft II is set in a fantasy realm where knights hack at trolls with swords, deadly spells crisscross the battlefield, and powerful fortresses dot the landscape. The game pits the evil orcs against the humans, letting players choose whichever side they want in a series of battles over the world. With the WarCraft II: Battle Chest, players can experience the magic of the original game along with the added enhancements of the Beyond the Dark Portal expansion pack. Rounding out the Battle Chest is a complete strategy guide that will walk beginners through the basics and provide more experienced players with advanced tactics so they can master the game. That's good, because players will need all the help they can get challenging other WarCraft II fans online. It's possible to challenge one to eight other players on the developer's free Battle.net servers, while more solitary gamers can immerse themselves in one of the fun single-player campaigns or stand-alone missions. WarCraft II's finely balanced gameplay has lost none of its charm, even if the graphics are aging. In most missions you start with a small force and must gather enough resources to build a strong base of operations that can field a formidable army.

These are the games that started it all! The original great real-time-strategy games by Blizzard are classics.I remember downloading the demo of Warcraft from a local BBS and loving it. When Warcraft two came out I played this game until the last map, which I never did finish...always irks me. I have gone back to play these games once in a while to try to relive the fun I had playing them originally, but games get outdated so fast and this set of Warcraft games is no exception. The originals, these games practically invented a whole gaming genre...and heck it it wasn't fun to keep building and building to see what type of stuff you can get next! If you can handle playing older games, check them out.
