What's striking is how true to life this Dinotronic is.Although Amazon suggests for use from age four and up, I purchased this item for my three-year-old son who is crazy about dinosaurs. My son also appears to be mechanically gifted, so the remote was no problem. In fact, I enjoyed watching he and his twin sister discovering and learning all of which the remote controls. Gabe has a collection of dinosaurs to play with, yet this Dinotronic is his favorite. And mine. It exceeded all of my expectations. I purchased this gift online and frankly had expected a glaringly mechanical toy with robot-like movements. This Dinotronic T-Rex's movements are incredibly realistic. It is encased in a strong rubber-like "skin" and leg, arm, neck, head and mouth movements appear to be flowing as if jointed. So well made, this Dinotronic could truly be used as a miniature in a film production. There are enough commands on the remote control to engage one's interest for quite some time. There are six buttons on the front which cause actions such as head rearing and crying out in a roar-like resonance (not too loud however to be disturbing). There is also a control stick which makes the dinosaur walk and turn. We've encountered few problems and nuisances: The dinosaur does require six AA batteries.; I had difficulty opening and properly closing the battery cover on the dinosaur (it is at an angle and of odd shape), if not fastened absolutely perfectly, the unit will not respond to the remote.; Ours did not "walk" on even the tightest, shortest carpeting (It is fine on table tops, floors and tiles).; and Once, the dinosaur switched "on" without the remote. The Dinotronic's uniqueness however, far outweigh the minor flaws and inconveniences. Considering its life-like movements (it's eyes even blink), the sounds it emits, its texture, the fact that it is remote operated, thus cordless (a GREAT "first" remote), and the versatility of the control pad, make this toy really engaging.

This is easily the best birthday present our son received for his 5th birthday! The cost is entirely reasonable, the toy is durable, and it has already provided hours of fun not only for him and his daddy, but also for his mommy's friends at work (who saw it arrive and couldn't wait for me to bring it back for them to play with after my son's birthday party!). The only observations I would make beyond that are that the "on-off" switch on the belly of T-Rex is hard to see, especially for little 5-year olds (but also for their daddies), and the description should be more specific about the number of batteries required -- six AA batteries. The toy seems very sturdy and is so life-like it could easily scare an unsuspecting adult (I know, I tried it myself at work this morning!). Congratulations to Toy-R-Us for selling such a great toy at a great price. I may just buy more for other people for next year!"Mother of 5-year old boy and wife of 56-year old husband"

Same as the other T-Rex owners here... when I finally got it working I had to hold the remote 6 inches from the toy before it would work and then it only wants to go in circles... something is very stuck with the mechanics - it makes weird clicky noises and doesn't respond to the remote... BAD NEWS!
