Rating: - This is a box not a workbench
This toy is very decieving. It is supposed to be a workbench to build on, but it is basically a bin for blocks. If you want to build the workbench it takes every block that comes with it to build it, then it falls apart very easily. The stickers that came with it didn't stick well and were in the trash within a week. My son loves playing with the blocks, but his workbench is now just a storage bin.
Rating: - Nice - Real Nice
This is a great little creative toy. I have never had one child that didn't appreciate the idea of these building blocks (oldest is now almost 19). We picked this up for our 12 month old. Educational wise - you can't go wrong. It's great for teaching colors, counting, size & relationships (for example, two "half-blocks is equal to one full size block), and also problem solving, for a few.I would advise anyone to pick these up just for the educational value alone. If you save the simple picture instructions that come with the set (to make the "toolbench"), the kids can also learn to follow simple instructions.
Rating: - Son loves the blocks
We got this for our son when he was 6 months old. Of course he did not do much with it at first but by his first birthday we could not pull him away from his blocks. He really has grown up with this toy and it has provided him with quite a bit. Between 6-12 months he continually pulled himself up to a stand on the box. He either wanted to see what was inside or he wanted to put a stray block back. It is nice that the lid has a hole cut in it so that little hands can put things in and out without taking the entire lid off. Our son is fascinated with everything and continually asks us what various things are. We referred to the blocks by their colors and by 12 months old he could tell the four or five colors that come with the set. By 14 months he was walkaround the playground pointing to objects and saying their color. He was quite the show. At first he loved to tear down the stacks I built but around 16months he began building his own towers (and then knocking them down). He spends so much time with this toy over his others we bought both of his grandparents a set so that he had something gauranteed to capture his attentiont when he visited. I have to agree with the other review that mentions the loose lid. It is not that loose and it only comes off through the rough play of kids. Our son prefers to place the lid on the ground and work from there. It is more stable than having it rest on top of the box. He enjoys the tools and routinely follows mom and dad around with the toy cell phone saying 'Hello...for you'. One note, if you are getting this because of the workbench theme forget it. I have afeeling my son will never care about constructing the workbench layout. Buy it for the sixty or so blocks that come with it and leave the layout of what to build up to your child.
