These guys put other characters such as Mario, Sonic, Spyro, Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Crash Bandicoot to shame! I don't usually play role-playing games with these kinds of characters, because they are geared towards a younger audience. However Ratchet & Clank seems to be geared towards all audiences! The graphics are superb! Just click on the Ratchet & Clank PS2 box up top to see some screenshots, and you'll know what I'm talking about. There are so many details with the characters, and background traffic for each planet. In addition, the storyline is fantastic and funny! It knocked my socks off! The enemy robots are quite amazing, such as a robot dog that barks and starts chasing you. There are so many weapons and gadgets that you aqcuire during the gameplay. These guys at Insomniac have some imagination! The weapons and gadgets are so much fun! Here are a few weapons that I have aqcuired so far (and I'm sure there's still many more): 1) Bomb Glove: Toss bombs at enemies at close or medium range with this glove. 2) Pyrocitter: A flamethrower. 3) Blaster: A gun that fires rapidly. 4) Glove of doom: (This is by far my favorite weapon!) The glove throws doom eggs which hatch into four agents of doom. These guys track down and destroy nearby enemies. You literally see these little guys running around sniffing the ground and searching for enemies. Once they see an enemy, they start running towards it with an evil grin and laugh! Then they devour the enemy up! 5) Suck canon: (Another great weapon!) Suck small enemies and convert them into explosive projectiles! There are cool gadgets too, such as a heli-pak which allows you to jump higher, and glide. It looks really great, when you see Clank's hands turn into two little propellers, while the main propeller extends from his head! As with other role-playing games, you collect stuff as you are running around the planets. This is also another aspect of the game that seems ingenious. You're running around collecting nuts and bolts. When you destroy an enemy, you collect a couple of extra nuts and bolts. Hit lamp posts as you are running down a street and collect nuts and bolts from them too! You use these nuts and bolts to buy the cool weapons and gadgets, and ammo! Finally, Ratchet is equipped with a default weapon, which is a wrench. This is a magnetic wrench which attracts the nuts and bolts that you collect. You can also toss this wrench and have it return to you, such as a boomerang! When Ratchet's health gets low, his ears fold down and we can see a tired look on his face. Another great example of the detailed graphics in this game! Definitely spend your money on this one! It's not some game for kids alone!

This is a perfect example of not being able to judge a book by its cover. This game is so great! It is probably one of the best games I've seen yet for the PS2! Ratchet is a wisecracking spaceship repairman living on some backwater until he is enlisted to save the universe from the evil Blarg. Simple story, lots of fun! Cool features: -Huge world! You explore seemingly endless planets and nooks and crannies. Everything is interactive, allowing you to run on, jump up on and blow up just about everything. -Weapons: There are lots. I'm not totally through the game, but there are TONS! Pretty much every level has something or two and different weapons open up more levels. I think this is what makes R & C stand out from other platform games. -Great animation & writing. The game is very well put together. The characters are strong. The voiceovers are good and voices match up with the characters' mouths. Most importantly, I find them interesting. I usually fast forward (if I can) through [bad] voiceovers in games. -Family and adult oriented I first played this game over at my 11 year old cousin's house. I got very into it, very quickly. It really does have cross age appeal. - FUN! One of the most simply fun games I've played in years! Overall I recommend this game to all with no reservations.

THIS is what I call a platformer. Picked this game up yesterday, this is what a next generation platformer should play like, it even makes MarioSunshine look weak by comparison in my view. Every level so far has had something completely different. You'll find yourself doing something different all the time. It's also not a short game, easily more than 20 hours of playtime your first time thru. Every planet I have been to so far has been larger than the one before. They are also getting more difficult in that I am much more likely to get bopped than in the first few levels. It's not too easy, and it's not too hard - just perfect. I'm also very surprised at the quality of the music. I can't remember which, but one of the planets has a techno track playing and there's a guy at one point that's yelling something. I thought it was cool because game music generally doesn't have anyone singing in it (unless it's intro/outro stuff, if your name happens to be GTA3/GTA: VC, or a few other games. Not ot mention the voice acting is superb and the dialogue is hilarious! And unlike SMS, R&C has an intelligent camera, you can control it, however if your jumping off walls to get up on to another area, it inteligently moves to a easily viewable location and does not magically change angles and tick you off as SMS does. Not to mention Ratchet and Clank completly owns MarioSunshine in the respects of -Graphics -Sound -Animation -Control -Camera -Presentation -Story/Cutscenes So, while mario may have a little bit better overall jumping experience, R and C is an overall much better game. And certainly isn't as 'gimicky' as SMS. I like the direction the R and C is taking the platform genre and am in highhopes for a sequal. It's nice to have so many different varitey in worlds, weapons and objectives. You even get to play as a different character rather than just one all the time. Just surprised ho much more FUN I'm having with R and C compared to when I played Mario. Keep in mind I am Nintendo fan, and I still have a place in my heart for Mario, but Ratchet and Clank has set the bar so high. I still find it strange when I say R and C is better then SMS. But it's the real deal folks. If you enjoy platformers, you NEED to check this one out.
