Rating: - XBOX, don't make me laugh!!!!!
I used to think that I was making a mistake buying PS2, people said Xbox's graphics were better (and I actually trusted them). Thank God my friend went on vacation and let me borrow his Xbox, some games were fun but none of the games (he had Halo, Crazy Taxi something, FIFA World Cup, Splinter Cell and a lot of other good games) matched up to Final Fantasy X, GTA: Vice City, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and others. GameCube is okay, better than Xbox, but it's only Fox, Mario, and all the other Nintendo oldies. I love Microsoft's software, but they can't make gaming machines. The loading times are unacceptably long on the Xbox. It's a good thing I didn't buy it, but it's still a good Multiplayer gaming machine, otherwise, it sucks! Now I realize what a mistake my friend made, I keep telling him but he doesn't listen. Although, he love GTA: Vice City and Final Fantasy X. I look at PS2 games, and I see the greatest games that were made, I look at Xbox, and... well, do I need to say more? The graphics of the PS2 are clear and crisp, the sound is great(based on the game, that is), it plays the DVDs very well, and it plays music very well too. The only thing bad about the PS2 is that it requires a Memory Card, otherwise, it's great. Xbox may have "unlimited" memory, but that's not an excuse for how long it takes for something to happen, and almost all the games on Xbox are sports(which I'm getting bored of). Xbox = Multiplayer, PS2 = THE BEST!!! And ... the Xbox is big, how many things does it require again? Anyway, my point is that PS2 is better than Xbox, no matter what people say. END OF STORY!!!
Rating: - Buyer beware!
I am now convinced that Sony's quality control does not exist. The warranty for this product is only 90 days, which shows how well Sony stands behind their products. I noticed that when I try to play a DVD movie there is constantly a video interruption where my Sony TV flashes "Video 1" on the screen, making it unbearable to watch any movies through the playstation 2. (And this is after my Sony DVD player has failed, just outside of it's warranty). I have been very careful with it, keeping it clean and in a safe location. I am sure that Sony just loves to have the MTTF (mean time to failure) at the exact point just after the warranty runs out. I would stronly recommend against buying this or (any other Sony) system. If you do, I would recommend getting some kind of extended warranty.
Rating: - Manufacturer will not recognize a flaw... Read this!
I bought my PS2 I year or so ago. I chose it over other systems newly or about to be released because of the larger number of games available and because of the Sony name brand (nothing against MS or Nintendo!). The system worked fine for months. Suddenly one of my games, ONI, stopped working. Oh, well... Defect on the disc, so is life. Then a second game, borrowed from my brother (ICO), could not be read on my system while working fine on his. Hmmm... Search the internet for "PS2 DISC READ ERROR". Hundreds of people have the same problem I do. In my case it only affects blue discs (the data side of the disc is blue). They just won't read. And let me tell you that game producers do not write in the box "this is a blue disc". Sony just replies to me with standard pre-formatted e-mails. I'll have to call them to solve the problem. Warranty is only 90 days, so they will probably charge me for fixing what seems to be (due to the sheer number of people having the problem) a manufacturing defect - although it seems Sony will not admit that. Other than that (HA!HA!) the games are great. The system is fun. Works fine as a DVD player and has game titles for the entire family.
