Rating: - Disappointing
When this toy was being heavily advertised before it was even available last summer, I predicted (correctly, as it turned out) that it would become a hot holiday seller. I pre-ordered the white cat on Amazon in August and put it away as a Christmas gift for my 3-year-old daughter.Perhaps I expected more because we have two real cats, but this toy does not live up to the hype. The meows sound fake; no cat meows like that. Its movements are jerky and mechanical, and the motor that controls them is loud. Because the sensors react to touch, the cat not only hisses when its tail is pulled, it also hisses when the rump is touching something (such as the crook of your elbow if you cradle the cat in your arms). The cat does look remarkably like one of our live cats. I caught myself several times shooing the toy off the kitchen table, thinking it was the real cat. But you can buy a real-looking stuffed cat at a fraction of the cost if appearance is all you're looking for. My daughter was delighted with the toy for the first couple of days, but quickly grew bored with it. The cat has been sitting untouched in a corner of her room for the past week. Overall, I was very disappointed. I bought into the hype that the toy would look and act like a real cat. It does look realistic, but it would be a stretch to describe its movements as lifelike. Perhaps later versions will be improved, but I recommend saving your 30 bucks and getting your child a plain stuffed cat for a lot less.
Rating: - My Daughter's Favorite Christmas Present
I was so lucky to have my sister find one of these before Christmas, and it is definately my 5 year old daughter's favorite present. It does sound real and is very cute, I even have one on a wish list for my 4 year old son because he likes it so much. Every once in a while the front paws gets out of place and instead of making the movement it is supposed to it makes a funky noise and I have to play with the legs to get it unstuck. That is the reason I only gave it a 3 star for durablity. I would have still have bought it anyway because my daughter loves it so much.
Rating: - It was the best thing Santa brought.
My daughter is seven and she thinks her kitten is the best thing that Santa has ever brought to her!! (It wasn't even on her "must have" list.) She has not stopped playing with her. I think "Snowbell" will be a constant companion for a long, long time. Since my daughter loved the kitten so much I ordered her the the cat today. It has been well worth the money just to see how much enjoyment she has received already. Any child who is a cat lover would love one of these. They do make mechanical noises, but the cute factor more than makes up for it.
