Rating: - As Good As The Tour!!!!
I am very pleased with this cd. After cringing thru "Tripping The Live Fantastic" and "Paul Is Live", finally we are blessed with a live recording that McCartney fans can be proud of. I saw him twice on this tour and this is really how he sounded folks. If you missed it, you missed his greatest live vocals since the Wings Over America tour. It would be 5 stars, but there are NO spoken intros or any comments between songs which sort of makes it seem fake at times. Also, since the total time of both discs add up to less than 2 hrs, it would have been nice to have included the songs from the 2nd leg of the tour as well since that was the true "Back In The US" tour. (Michelle, She's Leaving Home, and Let 'Em In). Another problem is in the booklet: Obviously the songs were recorded in different cities, but there is nothing that says what song came from where. Thankfully these are just minor complaints. Buy this CD and enjoy some great music.
Rating: - Terrific!
This live CD set from Paul McCartney's 2002 Driving US tour is absolutely terrific. There is a good mix of the best of McCartney's solo works with all the mandatory Beatle's classics, all impeccably performed by McCartney's exuberent first-rate band. The sound quality is superb, with the mix so pristine you can hear the clear seperation of guitars, drums, keyboards and vocals. If I had a minor quibble, I wished more of the in-between song banter had been retained. Paul usually provided some introduction regarding the history of most of the songs, and it feels strange at times not hearing it here. It's also somewhat sad his very heartfelt comments before the tributes to John (Here Today) and George (Something) are missing. Overall, I am very happy to own this set. It does rekindle the memories when I saw this tour in Oct 2002, along with most of the magic of that wonderful night. Even if you weren't there, if you're a Beatles fan there is still much to enjoy. lr** Dec 29,2002 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Rating: - CAPITOL RUINS MCCARTNEY'S USA TOUR CD
I completely agree with the first review I saw on this page. This CD was a HUGE disappointment to me.I saw Paul live in Hartford this past September and the show was amazingly, and nothing less. He was brilliant on stage, and always had something insightful to add between songs. He kept the crowd in awe with every word. None of that exists on CD. These CD's are so poorly made, even one with the worst of ears can hear the horrible editing jobs from song to song, the crowd's applause fade out into the next track... editing suitable for 1965- not now. Paul doesn't even introduce songs on this set. He switches from guitar to piano in 3 seconds somehow between songs (the magic of editing, eh?) and while the sound quality and band's performances are outstanding, there was no love or care put into this package. I wish I could personally slap wrists at Capitol records for ruining what should have been an outstanding cd. If you own "Tripping the Live Fantastic" or "Wings Over America," do not waste your time or money (unless you are easily amused and want nothing more than song, song, song...). Paul McCartney wouldn't even enjoy listening to this. I do not know how this got past him.
