Here's the truth: What little voice he once had is now gone. He will sing a few bars and then rely on the instrumentalists in his group (i.e., the flutist, violinist, etc.) to fill in the rest. His range has shrunk; his tone, always thin and reedy, has diminished almost to the vanishing point. His forays into opera have stretched his limited resources to the point of collapse, and, worst of all, he has become even more tedious and dull. I once thought of him as the Yanni or John Tesch of Italian pop, but that would be an insult to those men now. He needs to hang it up, but as long as there are the tone-deaf and uninformed in the public, willing to purchase his recordings, I guess he'll stick around.
Rating: - Cieli Di Toscana - The Best Andrea Bocelli CD
Talk about mesmerizing and relaxing, this music speaks to your soul! It's relaxing, romantic, warm and passionate yet doesn't put you asleep! I'm not much for operas as I find them being a bit too dramatic or intense and some of the voices are too shrill for me but the calm and crisp voice of Andrea Bocelli is so enjoyable particularly on this CD. I listen to it often in my car, while I'm cooking, taking a walk, etc. You will enjoy this CD even if you don't know Italian. My only disappointment is that when I saw him in Sentimento concert just last week he didn't sing any songs from this CD but then, he was promoting a different CD. If you ever have a chance to see him in concert too, definitely take the opportunity. He is incredibly spectacular in live performance and he gave the audience 4 or 5 encores 'after' the show! It was spectacular and well worth the money!
Rating: - BEAUTIFULLY PRODUCED ALBUM
Just received "Cieli di Toscana". Highly recommended. Sound is superb, favorite tracks too many to mention but include "Mascagni", "Il Diavolo E L'Angelo", L'Incontro, L'Abitudine" and "Melodramma". Least liked track is "E Mi Manchi Tu" too melancholic--can't believe this won first prize in the Bocelli song contest. Il Diavolo E L'Angelo (Devil or Angel) is an upbeat number which is performed with real joy and surprisingly was written by Bocelli a long time ago when he was just past his teens. I would like to see him record more upbeat and passionate(versus his naturally melancholic tone) songs and ofcourse more duets his voice blends so well. If E Mi Manchi Tu was left out and a few more duets and upbeat numbers included I would have given 5 stars.I love the poem in L'Incontro written by Bocelli on the birth of his first son and masterfully read by Bono from U2--tears poured upon first listening. I have read before that Bocelli does not intend to do more composing--however, I think he has a real talent I hope he'll continue. Can't wait for the DVD to come out.
