Rating: - This is a must-have!
Josh Groban is refreshing young talent in this world of manufactured voices and put together acts. A pure, powerful voice is what you will recieve with this young man. At just 20 years old, Josh's voice truly sounds ahead of his years. Besides his classicaly trained singing background, he is quite handsome as well, with flowing curly hair and that certain look that captivates the soul. He was discovered by David Foster, a Canadian producer, who paired Groban with Celine Dion in singing "The Prayer", when Andrea Bucelli fell ill. He is loved by Rosie O'Donnell and Oprah Winfrey and the Ally McBeal staff. That is where he first appeared, singing "You're Still You" and "To Where You Are", my personal favorites on the album. Josh does spectacular on "The Prayer", but Charlotte Church suprisingly falls low of her standards. For something a little different, he sings in Italian as well. This is a must-have for all lovers of Classical music or those who are looking to shake up their cd collection. Enjoy!
Rating: - WHAT A VOICE---ADDICTIVE!
... WHAT A VOICE!!! Unbelievable. If he's this good now while so young, with obvious technical training backing up his God-given voice, I can't wait for his subsequent albums.I bought this album about a week ago. It's all I play now, and I really don't want to hear anything else. I'm going on an extended road trip tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to it, so I can hear Josh Groban non-stop! I think I'm addicted to him.... Charlotte Church is okay, ("The Prayer") but not a match for his voice. He outshines her, and she sounds too weak. Bring on better duet partners for him. Everything else is fine. Most people will especially love the selections in English ("You're Still You," "To Where You Are" are highlights) as they are lush ballads. You don't need to understand Italian and Spanish to hear the emotion in the other songs. Maybe someday soon, his producers will let him expand artistically. With his voice, he could do ANYTHING. A Broadway album, maybe? I have "Gira Con Me" going through my head most of the day now, which I why I smile a lot. (I once had "Muskrat Love" stuck in my head for about a week. It was torture. "Gira Con Me" is better.) Buy this CD--you will not believe how wonderful his voice is. I wouldn't be surprised if a scientific study proved it was actually therapeutic to our health and well-being to listen to Josh Groban, even if it is addictive.
Rating: - Better than Bocelli
As I write this review, J.G. is blasting out of my stereo and I love every note! I am a huge Andrea Bocelli fan, but I think he has met his match in Josh. As many reviewers have stated, I saw him on the Ally McBeal episodes and was entranced, enthralled and intrigued. His performances left me in tears, not only because of the subject matter, but also because of the beauty of his voice. After his Leno appearance, I purchased the CD and have recommended him wholeheartedly to all my friends/family who enjoy this type of music. The strength of his voice and the emotion with which he sings are just outstanding. I do speak Italian and find him an absolute delight to listen to when he sings songs such as "Alla Luce del Sole" or "Un Amore per Sempre". No matter what the language, however, Josh's presentation is fantastic! Josh is at the beginning of a wonderful career and performs with such maturity for one so young. Looking forward to hearing more from him!!
