Rating: - Healthy but good food
Cooking Light has been a favorite magazine in our home for five years and gets some of the credit for my weight loss. The recipes are as delicious as they are easy to make and varied. The magazine offers calorie fat servings notations and there are non-meat as well as meat recipes and overall information on what a healthy lifestyle is and not just food, food, food. And having so many men in the home I note that the recipes are ones that men will like. Not the skimpy diet recipes but good healthy portions that fill the senses as well as the stomach. I even copy the recipes we like the most and keep them in a recipe book that I keep at the ready. There are recipes that are quick to make and recipes that are worthy of the most honoured guest.

I look forward to getting this magazine every month. My mouth waters just reading it. It contains a ton of healthy recipes that are also creative. It's tough to tell the difference between the healthier recipes and the lightened versions. It also includes a wide variety of types of recipes from everyday dinners to gourmet "company" dishes to potluck to ethnic foods. There is also a monthly column on vegetarian dishes.Cooking light also includes a range of articles on a healthy lifestyle, including vacationing, working out, etc. I read it for the recipes and menu planning. The only thing lacking is that so often the meals are not so easy from the ingredient perspective. I don't often know about the different kinds of hot peppers, for example.
Rating: - Changed a bit in recent years, but still worth it...
About 3 years ago, I discontinued my Cooking Light subscription in favor of getting the Annual Cooking Light Cookbook, which I also highly recommend. This year my grandmother renewed my subscription, and I got my first issue last week. I noticed that while the magazine focus has changed some, the essence of Cooking Light magazine still remains.When I got my first issue in the mail, the first thing that I found was a slightly thicker magazine than I expected. Wow, more cooking information right? Not quite. While the magazine still contains all the recipes and food trivia that I have always enjoyed, it now contains more advertising and off beat articles on topics like decorating, etc. Still, the magazine stays the course enough for me to enjoy it. Flipping through the magazine, I found lots of recipes with great potential. We also tried one of the cover recipes, a lighter mashed potatoes dish, which turned out excellent. After only one issue, I am very happy with this gift even in light of the slight shift in content. If you are thinking about giving this magazine to someone who loves to cook, I highly recommend this magazine.
