Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Lightweight and unfufilling.
MIT Technology Review initially seemed to have potential, but the articles lack background, depth, and an opportunity for additional study. It's very unfufilling and not worth subscribing to. I would suggest Discover or Scientific American as much better option.

For example, a recent issue featured the "40MPG SUV," and discussed various ways automobiles could increase fuel efficiency using (more or less) existing technologies. The article lacked background: What is the impetus for a crankshaft-based engine and why is this design so dominant? (Versus, say, a rotary engine?) The article lacked depth: If abandoning the use of a crankshaft would result in 30% increase of fuel efficiency *why* aren't manufacturers actively exploring this? (Maybe interview a research engineer at the big 4?) And there was no bibliography for other reading. Links to researchers' web sites? Further explanation on engine physics? Teasers on experimental models?

Finally, their subscription fulfillment sends you back issues to accelerate your subscription expiration. For example, I subscribed in late November, but received four back issues.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Cutting Edge Tech- the next generation
This is a very informative overview (most of the intriguing items are the short bulletins on developing technologies.) I'm interested in technology, but not a scientist or engineer myself. So being able to follow the writing about concepts that are quite removed from my experience makes this a mag I'll definitely be renewing.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Ahead of the curve
I don't read this magazine nearly as much as I should. The thing that impresses me is that it covers diferent technologies BEFORE they hit the market.
