Rating: - A Very Good Product
...I purchased this cookware a week ago and would consider giving it a 5-Star rating. I will provide here the reason.First, the craftsmanship is superb (Made in USA, I believe, because the box doesn't say the country of manufacture - the common case of American made Calphalons), especially the glass lid, which is heavy, very well made and fits the pan perfectly. The equipment of the glass lid instead of metal lid is probably a drawback in terms of being classic in style, but it does help when you are cooking something that needs constant attention without opening the lid. Secondly, the weight balance is among the best of Calphalon I've used (I own more than 10 pieces of Calphalon cookware). It is a rather heavy cookware. That's why it's called professional, opposite to "Commercial" or "Simply". Considering the majority of professional chefs are men, this is a great pan for them. Thirdly, the aluminum core of the pan is necessary. As said in the review below, aluminum is indeed harmful to human body. However, unless you are chewing it, you are not in any form of immediate danger. The reason is aluminum, especially 99% pure aluminum, provides fast heat transfer and even cooking no other metal could ever match. The surface of each hard-anodized and non-stick cookware is either hard "anodized" or applied with an outer layer, which isolates the aluminum core from any contact with the food you cook. Be very careful with the hand tool you use to cook though, as long as you do not damage the surface of a cookware, you need not worried about aluminum contact and its danger. In all, I personally like this pan...
Rating: - This Pot's For YOU
This pot's for you if you are tired of continuously lifting a pot lid to check if your food is "done" or "well-cooked". The see-through glass lid allows you to conveniently look at the food being cooked without raising the lid. Plus, this pot is just TOO hot. I love the design; it's SO attractive. It's non-stick, so it's easy to use and clean. Clumsy people need NOT apply. I don't intend to let this offer or pot slip outta MY hands.
Rating: - Copper bottoms forced into retirement
Due to the brand reputation, I browsed Calphalon items in the stores on and off for months. Due, however, to the price, I never made the plunge. At these prices, I figured I could not go wrong.I have had the pot for about a month and have used in primarily to steam vegetables and prepare sauces. With the glass lid, I can 'see' if the contents are boiling, simmering, or even, well...vegetating. The veggies, by the way, are full of flavor. Clean up truly is a breeze. This 2.5 quart pot has permanently replaced my old 2 and 3 quart pots, which are now in the basement. I was going to give them to my niece - those college student - but just purchased one for of these for her instead (and another for myself). Now it looks as though the old pots will go to one of my friend's nieces. I truly believe you will not regret purchasing this item.
