Average Rating: Rating: - The only thing missing for this biscuit joiner is the gravy This is by far the best plate joiner on the market. Before I expand further, the DEWALT 682 is a fine machine, as well as the MAKITA. The Dewalt's fence is extremely accurate as well as its fence. The Makita's fence is on the money accurate, but it requires a change and shims to join 45' angles. The PORTER-CABLE 557 has the best features of all without any of the flaws. The fence has a range from 0-135' without shims or removing the fence. The depth adjusment is simple and accurate. And as a bonus, it can cut six different profiles (0, 10, 20, FF, simplex, duplex). The two previously mentioned machines can cut the basics (0, 10, 20). If you plan on joining stock smaller than 1 1/2", then get this machine. It is well built and ergonomically comfortable. I got one and I have used the 1000 biscuits and some. Rating: - Porter-Cable has the Midas touch! This tool is perfect for any medium-large projects. I've used this tool to make table tops, bedroom/living-room furniture, cabinets, you name it! It's completely adjustable. Angles can be set very easily and precisely, and blade depth-adjustment for different size biscuits is a breeze. Also, fine depth-adjustment for more precise biscuit fit just takes a simple turn of a screw. My productivity with this tool has doubled, and the results are beautiful. Once you have this tool, you'll hate making mortise/tenon joints (although important for fine woodworking). It's cheaper than Lamello's joiner, but just as good in my opinion (though some cabinet makers prefer Lamello). The case for this P-C joiner is nice for on-site projects too. NO COMPLAINTS, BUY IT! Rating: - Unique and Standout Feature My fourth biscuit joiner ... and in many ways (specifically one) the best. The 557 has the unique feature of the handle attached to the fence as opposed to the body of the joiner. All the other manufacturers I've seen (including my 2 Lamello's) attach their fences to the body. Porter Cable chose to mount theirs on the fence - a brilliant move! A major safety feature besides allowing better control and the resulting more consistent cuts. On the other models I own, I find myself constantly holding the fence itself. And while I've never injured myself, one "dreads" the thought. A generally well engineered tool, other features deserve mention as well - smooth slide mechanism, nice miro-adjust fence, wide range of lamelles, repeatable depth, good waste handling, reputable manufacturer, ability to register off the base (I use it for 3/4 inch material and often don't use factory fence) - basically it's an easy choice for plate joiner.
