Average Rating: Rating: - Easy to use, a productive timesaver and fun! Though I purchased this elsewhere, I wanted to give a big "thumbs up" to Amazon customers considering getting a multifunction printer/copier/scannner/fax machine such as this. The speed and high quality printing, copies and scans have been a real plus. Set-up was a breeze--as a scanner, it is almost effortless with abundant options for modifying scans, etc. What sold me on this was being able to load my SONY handicam's media stick, print out a sheet of thumbnail images, pick which ones I wanted to print, etc. Many photo printing options--for example, one can print out single or multiple images on the same sheet, fitting a variety of combinations (e.g., 2 4x6 plus several wallet, 8x10, 9 wallet, plus custom sizing). If you love to scan photos or take digital ones for custom printing, you will enjoy this. Color and black-and-white copying is photo-quality and best of all, the machine is quiet--great for doing work late at night! Plus, you can use the copy or fax functions without bothering starting up your PC (unlike some scanners with a "copy" function). The only negatives have been 1.) the lack of an included USB cable ( ~ $5-$35, depending on size, where you shop, etc.) and 2.) I'm spending too much time playing with it! Rating: - Idiotic Three things. This printer has been around for quite a while, and when I installed the software on the CD, it kept on coming up with operating system warnings NOT to continue installation because it hasn't been tested with my operating system (Windows XP Home Edition). One would think that by now, HP would've seen this problem and would've addressed it in their installation instructions. This printer can only be used via USB cable! I wish I knew that before I bought it because I'm out of USB ports in my computer! Printers used to use a parallel cable, and I feel a deviation from the old standard deserves a more emphatic warning. Thirdly, as if the mandate of using a USB cable is not enough, this doesn't come with a USB cable either! Is a cable that expensive so as to leave that out? One would think that something so essential for computer use would already be included, ESPECIALLY if it's the ONLY interface it supports! HP, you've been in the printer business long enough. Haven't you learned anything at all through all those years? Whoever designed this packaging leaves a lot to be desired. A very unhappy customer! Rating: - Astounding color prints Just got this yesterday.Had it hooked up and running,under Windows XP,in about ten minutes. Extremely easy set-up process.The instructions are very clear and easy to follow.The manual that comes with the 950 is very well thought out,and very easily followed.Also..the initial onscreen walkthrough you can watch is also very helpful. Although the 950 does everything well,the prints from your media card are phenomenal.I loaded my Olympus' Smart Card,(it accomodates all three media types)and printed proof sheets of the 57 pics I had stored on the card.The process you use to print out your pictures is very logical,and works like a dream.I used photo-quality paper,and an 8x10 close-up of a single Hibiscus flower came out absolutely perfect.I have never owned such a capable printer before.And the fax,copy,and scan features work beautifully as well. True..this is only my second day using it,but if things stay the way they started out with this machine,then I am a very happy ditigal-photo freak.And,yes,the ink costs can be high,but I have another printer which I use for everyday printing.I will use this all-in-one for photo-quality prints,and all of its other features.
