Average Rating: Rating: - Disappointing HP Printer I have owned and used HP printers for about 10 years and have always been satisfied with their quality and speed. Having moved my office to my home I knew it was time to upgrade my printer from a HP 712C to something that would print graphics and photos a little quicker. My wife purchased the 5550 for me for Xmas which made me quite happy. While installing it, the first thing I noticed is that the quality of the plastic housing is not what it used to be. It feels flimsey and I had the feeling that it would crack easy. Setting up wasn't a problem, but when I inserted the paper for a test print I was in for a surprise. It was LOUD!!! Also when it was printing, it shaked so much I thought It was the washing machine. The print quality for text & photos was average, and the ink came out wet.(big drawback if your printing multible pages & don't want to sit in front of the printer). If you buy this printer for photos, watch out, it is rated to take up to 15 minutes to print a single 8x10 print. All in all I was very disappointed by HP. Needless to say the 5550 was returned, and I am now looking at the Canon S530D which Consumer Records rated much higher then the HP. Rating: - Great Buy Yes the ink cartridges are small but the printer is more efficient. You will notice also that the ink is cheaper than normal. The cost per page is roughly 4-5 cents for text which is really good in inkjet printing. Reading reviews I noticed people did not feel that the pictures were any better then their previous hp's. Reason being they probably did not print them in the 4800x1200 dpi mode because it is not default. Using that resolution, decent paper and best quality the pictures look suprisingly good. I also like the self-alligning cartridge feature so you do not have to choose the best fit lines. I would recommend this printer for almost anybody. The only flaw that I found with this compared to the higher priced models is that this one only takes the tri-color and black/photo. The printer will not take all three at the same time like some of the other models. Other then that it is great. Rating: - Best of Both Worlds! If you're doing loads of research in an attempt to find a printer that produces photo-quality prints and crisp text documents, look no further! I was originally planning on getting the HP PhotoSmart 1315 to go with my Sony CyberShot DSC F707 digital camera. I noticed it wasn't readily available, and figured out that HP had released the 7550 with similar, and presumably updated, features. My sister-in-law has the 1315, and the print quality is excellent but the machine is very slow. Well, I was at Best Buy and the salesman convinced me to try the Lexmark Z65. I returned it the next day because of the horrible print quality (horizontal banding). After even more research, I decided to try an HP like I had planned to. I was debating between the PhotoSmart 7550, 7350 and 7150. I was afraid that I would be "missing something" by not going with a more expensive printer. Wrong! I compared the 7150's features with the 5550's and decided the latter would suit my needs. I bought the 5550 today and I could not be happier! For B&W printing (text) on regular paper, the 5550 acts just like a regular Deskjet, but there is a hidden side to this printer. Printing with Kodak photo paper and the original color ink that came with the 5550 produced excellent results, even though HP offers a "photo" color ink cartridge to be used for color photo printing. I don't think it is necessary! My prints looked just like my sister-in-law's (we have the same camera and use the same paper) but it cost ... less! How great is that? Stop researching and buy it already!
