Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A great all around computer
I really love my IMAC. The good looks are obvious, the operating system is wonderful. I enjoy using it everyday. I have several Mac's. Two at home and 5 in my practice running the business.
I noticed one very bad review, where slowness of the OS was a serious problem for the writter. I'm sure if that fellow had bothered to keep up-to-date with OS updates (10, and 10.1 were slow), he's be using OS 10.1.5, like all the rest of us and loving the speed, beauty, and utility of the this OS. And with 10.2 (which Amazon sells, so you can buy it at the same time) being released in a few days. There is no way anyone would be able to say any windows operating system is superior to OS 10.1.5 or greater.
In short,will all windows people enjoy the change to the Mac OS? Of coarse not; we all resist change, and it's more comfortable to stay with what we have and thoroughly understand. But the people who open their minds to change will be rewarded by a superior system. My computer has been on with a number of programs open and running with out a single crash for many months. And I have never in 8 yrs had to reload an operating system EVER...

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - This is my first computer, so........
Let me say right off, there is no DVD Player on this Model (knew that going in, but Amazon.com includes it in its description). I bought this iMac in late August and so far I'm pretty happy with it. The thing you should know is that the Quicktime application is useless with a dial-up connection, so the very first thing I had to do was to download and install Real Audio for OSX to hear or see anything streaming on the Web.

I've never owned a Windows PC so I can't compare the two, but this is a beautiful machine to look at, that was important to me since I'm going to be using it every day for the next 4-5 years, and, it is easy to use. I had some trouble with it connecting to my ISP, but I did figure it out.

The CD-R is a very nice feature, that is where, for example, you can get some CD's at your local Library, and using your MAC you can put them onto a blank CD, which is pretty cool. That is also easy to do, even for a new user like me. Anyway, I should probably give it 4 Stars, but I've only had it for 3 months, so we'll see. Hope this Review helps you a little.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A solid investment
I brought into all the hype about the new iMac like I did way back in 1998 (wow time sure does fly)! Back to the subject. Your probley wondering does it live up to the hype, yes, yes, and no.

I've got to say that it sure is beatiful to look at but beauty is only skin deep. If you want to download tons of MP3's, play lots of games, make your own movies, and all that good stuff then you'll probley want to buy a PowerMac G4. I say this because the iMac is more built for Mac and computer newbies not the tech savvy people such as myself. If your new to the Mac univerise then you'll want this I also recommend buying a copy of "Mac OSX for Dummies" so you can learn to use your computer correctly.

Me personally I think I'm gonna stick with both my Alienware PC and my iMac. I think that Windows machines have finally cought up with Machintosh in stabilty and easy to use. The only thing I can say is if you really want to get a good computer you have to be ready to break the bank. The iMac is quite a bit more expensive than your run of the mill Dell or Compaq.

The Verdict(IMO):

If you owned the old iMac you probley have reached the limitatations so buy the PowerMac G4. But if your looking for a good family computer or a computer for your kid going back to school (depending on your feelings about a computer in your kids room). If your unhappy with your current Windows XP system go check out the iMac. But ultimalty if you want to get a high end computer be prepared to break the bank.
