Average Rating: Rating: - All in one mutli-media laptop This is a very impressive little bit of engineering... I'm typing this review on the S503 and have put it through it's paces. First this is the only laptop I've ever seen with an integrated subwoofer, what's not to love about that. Second you have USB 2.0 and Firewire, so plug in those cam-corders and make your own on-site edits. The processor packs some power but it lags a little in online applications, patience is a virtue. However you wont feel that typical 'I'm on a laptop' lack of power. The remote is a nice add-on, didn't know what I'd use it for untill I saw that this computer plugs right into an RCA on your TV, not just video etc, but the FULL screen all the time. This leads to Divx movies with friends or DVD's where you might not have one. The screen is so bright and vivid you may just want to watch movies on the built in 15" screen. There's an SPDIF output regular stereo and allegedly digital optical enabling dts if your reciever allows. The lid is made of a soft plastic and scratches much to easy, take good care of this one. I've heard that Toshiba has one of the best customer service satisfaction ratings above dell and gateway. Overall I'm very pleased to be leaving my 2 compaqs in the dust, they never lived up to their potential, Toshiba has consistantly blown away my expectations. Rating: - Best for your money I bought this laptop to use for school, and a little home use while i'm at it. My god, its fast. My tower feels a little jealous from it. The 15" screen is gorgeous and plays well in games. The 2Ghz processor is perfectly fine for surfing the net and running any program your'll find. 512mb of ram is fine, but the only qualm i have is that Toshbia installs 2 256mb DIMMS, so if you want to upgrade, you have to replace the ram. The hard drive is plenty fast, regardless of what anyone says, and the 32mb of video ram is plenty. USB 2.0 is a great thing, if you ever find peripherals to use it...a DVD burner, perhaps? The StyleBay may hold one in the future, but an external would probably be your best bet. The speakers speak for themselves...the only laptop i know to come with one is Sony..and you gotta pay EXTRA to buy it! the dvd/cdrw is an 8x DVD, 24x10x24 cdrw....very fast...Dell charges you an arm and a leg for one. No floppy drive..but i'm not feeling the hurt for one anyway with the RW drive. All in all...its a wonderful machine for the money....good work Toshiba! Rating: - Awesome laptop. How can anyone go wrong with the 5205. Got the machine primarily for software development installed Visual Studio .Net, Sql Server, Oracle, Adobe PhotoShop 7.0 and loads of other development tools and this machine runs everything without a sweat. If you are looking for a serious software development machine which will last you for years this is the best you could get. And the expandability is phenomenal. The screen is superb, speakers are great, RAM/HDD (5 stars for the money), the subwoofer is the best I have seen on a laptop. The quick TV output is great for presentations, and the remote very handy. Wireless networking worked in a snap. Would recommend this system highly for anyone looking for serious a development environment machine. TOSHIBA ROCKS!!! Toshiba service is top notch.
