This product is unsafe. yes to an untrained individual thinking of comfort for their infant, it looks much safer than a bobbing head during a crash, but if you actually watch an infant and an infant seat in a collision, the head does not bob from side to side. The baby moves with the impact, and with this headrest, the child is separated from the seat, resulting in a higher rate of injuries, including those to the neck and back. It may seem minimal, but it is significant! Aftermarket producers tell you they are safe, and why wouldn't they? They make money on it! a rolled up receiving blanket placed around an infants head, not behind it, is safe. THIS IS NOT. Who are you going to trust? A sales associate making commission on his sales, or a carseat inspector, trained to potentially save lives of a baby. They do not tell you to remove aftermarket products for their benefit. It is for the safety of the precious cargo depending on you!!
Rating: - Great buy!
I bought one of these in ecru which matched my plaid print infant travel system perfectly. The two sizes were a wonderful option as my newborn had a very small head and his head would have been flopping around without the additional headrest. As he grew and gained more control of his head I removed the interior headrest and continued using the large (outer) headrest which he has recently outgrown. He had developed perfect head and neck control/strength well before he outgrew it. I recommend this to all moms and dads to be. Buy it, use it, you will not regret it. It is well made, launders perfectly, and it is super soft. This mommy of 3 LOVES it. The best out there! People who say they are unsafe: I'm sorry but the amount of padding behind your baby with this item in place is no thicker than a baby's sweatshirt which puts the "padding compression theory" during a car accident to rest. You would never pick up your newborn without supporting it's head. Your Doctor tells you that you need to support their head until they develop sufficient head control and the strength in their neck muscles to hold their head up without fatigue. Why would you not follow through with Doctor recommended advice when transporting your child in a motorvehicle? For parents-to-be who are still unsure about using one of these in their car seat, I would ask your Pediatrician for their opinion on the matter. They have the knowledge and training to give you an answer that you can feel confident is safe for your baby.
Rating: - Beware of advice that doesn't add up.
I notice that a couple of reviews say something like, "don't use this product because it wasn't crash tested with your car seat." These reviews then follow up with, "use a rolled up receiving blanket, etc..." Note: your car seat wasn't safety tested with a rolled up receiving blanket either! This product is a problem if it interferes with your car seat. Does it prevent the restraint from snapping properly? If so, don't use it. It doesn't change the position of the baby relative to the 5 point restraints in our car seat. It doesn't prevent the buckle from snapping. The car seat still fits into the car seat base... I think it's a great way to add the cushioning needed for our baby's head without having to keep up with a separate cushion all the time.
