Average Rating: Rating: - It gets the job done. I have been using the Diaper Genie for 8 months now and I think it is a great product. It does a great job of containing the odor in my son's room. People must remember that you are putting dirty diapers in it, so the odor isn't going to magically disappear. The inside of the genie can get kind of funky, but a little Lysol sprayed on the inside every time you empty it seems to do the trick. When I first started using it, I also had the problem of the first few diapers not keeping separated into their own little sausages. Then I figured out that if you leave a little piece of the first diaper(like the tape tabs)in between the clips when you twist the plastic, rather than pushing it all the way down, you don't get the big clump of diapers at the beginning. I wouldn't use anything else for disposing of my son's diapers. Rating: - Sam Tuckers Mom and Dad We tried the genie for a week and were dissapointed in the small number of diapers you could put in before you had to change the bag (which are specially made for the Genie.) If you are looking for a unit that uses standard kitchen trash bags, go with the Diaper Champ. It does not smell and it easily holds more than one days worth of diapers. Rating: - I've changed my mind about this one I previously reviewed this item and had decided that although it is better than stinking up the kitchen trash with dirty diapers, it's not better by much. But then Playtex came out with the "toddler diaper" refills, they are supposed to contain odors better. Well guess what-they actually do! We've gone from barely using our genie to using it all the time. We keep it in the baby's closet, because at least only the closet would stink. But now, the closet doesn't even smell. I'm amazed that these refills could make such a big difference, but they really do. The only downside is that they are more expensive than the regular refills, hopefully that will change. But I think I can now say that the genie was worth the money I spent on it. A lot of people told me that i didn't need a diaper pail but let me tell you, after 18 months of diapering, I have found that you definitely do unless you want to be taking the trash out on a daily basis. We only put stinky diapers in the genie, we throw the wet-only ones in the regular trash. That way we don't have to go through as many refills as we normally would. I am happy with my purchase and I would recommend the genie to anyone.
